Company History

  • Mr. Edwin Heim started in a garage at the rear of 1408 Vernon Street, Harrisburg, PA as a motor repair shop in 1931.
  • In 1945 Mr. Heim formed a corporation, including himself and two associates:
    Edwin L. Heim, President
    Charles Bashore, Treasurer
    Richard Fisher, Secretary
  • In 1947 the company moved from the original 1408 Vernon Street location to 671 South 19th Street.
  • Mr. Heim remained active in the business until December 1954 when he retired.
  • In the reorganization Charles Bashore was elected President
    Helen Bashore, Vice President
John Donson, Vice President in charge of construction

  • As sales increased, operations began to expand allowing for the establishment of a complete industrial wiring department.
  • Heim was referred to as a drug store electrician in the fifties by the large national electrical contractors ( H. P. Foley and E. C. Ernst ) which no longer exist.
  • Heim continued to grow, building a new office and warehouse in 1962 and having 2 major expansions since, as well as many internal expansions.
  • This allowed us to open a Carlisle branch on June 10, 1963 at 501 Louther Street. Paul Estep managed the Carlisle shop.
  • We renovated the motor shop and added a high bay addition to house an overhead crane in 1969-1970.
  • Heim Purchased 2020 Greenwood Street to use as additional warehousing in 1974.
  • Carlisle shop was closed in 1978.
  • Mr. Richard Fisher passed away in 1978 and Heim later purchased his interest in the company.
  • Heim entered into the telecommunications and telephone market in 1984.
  • Purchased 630 Dunkle Street in 1990 to expand warehouse facilities.
  • Heim purchased GES Technology in 1991 which moved into part of the 2020 Greenwood warehouse, and as time went on took over the whole building.
  • Company President Charles Bashore passed away in 1995 and his son Larry Bashore became President.
  • In 1997 Heim purchased more adjacent property at 1928 Greenwood Street, which is currently used as warehousing.
  • In 1999 Edwin L. Heim Company became an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company with 350 plus employees.
  • In 2002 the Mechanical Division was started in response to the growing needs of our existing and new customers.
